I was driving to the grocery store earlier today when I saw a couple cars with Baby On Board signs attached to their rear windows.
No matter where you go, if you’re driving through the city and even the country, there’s a good chance that you will come across a car with either Baby On Board or more rarely Mommy To Be On Board sign on it.
The reasons for these sign are obvious, but even though the message(s) are simple, the impact that they can make are big.
Even before I had a baby on the way, whenever I would be driving behind a car with a Baby On Board or Mommy To Be On Board sign on it, I would give it a little extra space…not that I would be tailgating it otherwise 😉
I believe that every parent or expecting parent who owns a car, should have one. They are very cheap and they could potentially make things safe for you and your precious cargo.
I’d say it’s a no brainer!
But which one should you get and where can you get it?
What Is The Purpose Of Baby On Board or Mommy To Be On Board Signs?
Safety!
These signs are placed on the rear window of vehicles to let drivers behind you know that you have a baby or mom-to-be on board.
Simply put…it’s a subtle way of telling the drivers behind you to give you some space.
It’s an effort to make it safer for babies and women who are expecting when they are in cars and other vehicles.
Another way to keep baby safe is to make sure that the breast milk they drink is cooled and heated properly to preserve nutrients. See the bottle that can do that for your baby here.

Which Baby On Board Sign Should You Get?
We recently picked up our first Baby On Board sign for the car.
The sign is great because it’s reversible with the words Baby On Board on one side, which is the side we’ll have it on when the baby gets here of course.
On the other side it says Mom(To Be) On Board, which we’ll use for now to keep him and his soon-to-be Mommy safe.
This sign also has a nice soft feel to it, it has a soft foam coating but sturdy enough so it doesn’t crack or chip easily.
This is important because it’ll be attached to my rear window with the sun beaming down on in during the summer months.
It’s also bendable but it’ll start to leave a crease if it’s been bent too far.
Where Can You Get A Baby On Board Sign?
Baby On Board and “Mom To-Be On Board” signs are everywhere but yet I don’t come across very many in stores.
I’ve strolled through the baby section of the local Target and Walmart, but I have yet to see one of these signs for sale.
I’m not saying that they don’t sell them, I’m saying that I’ve never seen them in those stores.
The only store that I’ve seen them in, and the one that I bought one from, is Fred Meyer.
Now, when you look online, there are many websites that you can easily find Baby On Board signs. There are also many different variations and sizes to choose from.

Find your Baby On Board sign on eBay.
Where Do You Buy Mommy To Be On Board Signs?
Mommy To Be On Board or Mom To Be On Board signs are a little more rare.
Some of the Baby On Board signs will also have Mommy To Be On Board or a variation on the back, but not all of them do.
I’ve never actually seen a standalone Mommy To Be On Board online or in stores.
In fact, the only Mom To Be On Board sign that I’ve seen in on the back of the Baby On Board sign that I just picked up.
I was able to find it on Amazon if you want to check it out.
Does Size Matter?
I’d say yes, size matters. But not in the way that you would think.
It’s very important for the drivers behind you to be able to read what the sign says. After all, it is an attempt to get drivers to give you some space.
You’d the sign big enough for people behind you to read the sign, even at a fair distance.
But at the same time, you don’t want the sign to take up too much of your back window.
Some Baby On Board and Mommy To Be On Board signs take too much space and can impair your vision.
You don’t want the sign that’s supposed to keep you and your passengers safe to also cause a safety concern.
Now, I would say that size matters for these Baby On Board and Mommy To Be On Board signs. You want to get one that’s big enough to convey the message but small enough to not impair your vision.
The one that I got is 6.7 inches(16 cm) tall when in a “diamond” position with the suction cup on top,

Conclusion
Whether you are getting a newer, more reliable car with better safety ratings than your old one, adding a new security system(check out the Ring Home Security System here) to your home or something smaller and less expensive like getting a Baby On Board sign, keeping your family safe is the #1 priority.
Regardless of what you choose to do, there is a price range for all budgets.
Getting a Baby On Board sign is very cheap…usually less than $10. I would say that it’s a great place to start.
A Baby On Board or Mommy To Be On Board sign is a nice way to tell tailgaters to back off.
It may not always work because no driver can control what other drivers do, but if a small group of drivers give you some breathing room because you have a sign, I’d say it’s better than none.
