My Journey – Week 27: The Test…

Today, our baby is 2.20 lbs(.99 kg) and he is 14.8 inches tall. Ironically, he is the size of an eggplant!!

Week 28, on this day, we are 7 months pregnant!!

The Test…

Yesterday, my girlfriend and I went to the doctor for another visit. This time, we tested her blood glucose levels, a Gestational Diabetes test to be exact. Her iron levels were also tested. It’s kind’ve a weird process actually: She has to finish a bottle Glucola(a high sugar drink) within 5 minutes of starting the bottle, exactly 1 hour after she finishes the bottle, her blood is drawn to be tested. I didn’t read the label of the Glucola, but I would imagine that it’s like drinking a couple of Cokes. We got the results today…every thing is fine!!! Thankfully. Also during the appointment, we spoke with the doctor about a couple things. The first thing we asked was whether or not my girlfriend is allowed to take Melatonin to assist with sleep. We were told that there isn’t enough research on Melatonin and pregnancy but Unisom was recommended instead. Strange. We also asked about placenta encapsulation to help with postpartum depression…our doctor wasn’t able to recommend that either. I guess all she can do is tough it out. 🙁

Consignment Superstore…

During this week, we went to another consignment store. In Kent, WA is where we found Kid To Kid…a consignment store filled with shoes and clothes for everyone from 0-3 months to about 6 years old. There were also toys, furniture, books and equipment for babies as well. The last couple consignments stores we’ve gone to were a bit small, almost boutique like. Kid To Kid however, wow! This place was like a superstore for kids and babies. The prices were decent also. If you’re ever in the Kent, WA area, it’s worth a look.

The Waddle Is Real…

This passed week, I’ve noticed that my girlfriend has been having a lot of trouble getting around. Every moment, every step is very labored…no pun intended! I feel so bad, I wish I could help her more. Besides the movements, earlier this week, she had intense lower back pain…it didn’t help that the baby was pushing up against it. Back pain seems to be the most prevalent of all pains in recent months. I do the best I can to rub her back but sometimes it doesn’t seem to be enough. I hate giving her Tylenol! I don’t like the chemicals. The symptoms are real…she noticed a couple days ago that her fingers are swelling.

The Preparation…

We are getting close to having everything we need for our baby boy. We’ve got a good collection of baby clothes and swaddling blankets but we just got our baby carrier and ordered our first month’s worth of diapers from Honest. The preparation is getting there and the cost is getting higher, but having everything he needs is priority so I’ll find a way to provide for him and my girlfriend by any means necessary. Long story short, we’ll be fine.
