Today, our baby is 3.75 lbs(1.7 kg) and he is the size of a squash or 16.6 inches tall.
Before we begin, I wanted to mention that just a few months ago, the measurements we were getting measured from the top of his head to his bottom(crown to rump) but now we are getting full measurements. It’s a big deal to me because the time has flown by before I even had a chance to stop and think about it. And it’s so crazy to me that the measurements changed from crown to rump to a full body one before I knew it. It’s hard to articulate how crazy this is to me, but I hope you understand.
This week, we picked up a 4Moms Mamaroo baby swing for our son. We got it used from OfferUp for a good deal. If you don’t know what OfferUp is, it’s like Craigslist but more picture focused. They also have an app and a rating system for buyers and sellers. There are many other features and if you like buy and sell platforms, you should check it out. Especially if you are trying to save cash on baby stuff. We also had a doctor’s appointment yesterday where we heard our son’s heartbeat again. The doctor tells us that everything is fine with my girlfriend and our son.
He’s A Swinger
The 4Moms Mamaroo baby swing that we picked up is one of the last big pieces that we have to get. The swing is pretty cool because there are many different movement patterns and white noise settings. You can even plug your smart phone or MP3 player into it to play music through an auxiliary audio cable. The model that we have doesn’t feature Bluetooth but it’s great regardless. Also, why would you need to be able to turn it on and off with a smart phone? Let’s not be lazy!! It was a good deal because we were able to get an Infant Insert and mobile included with the Mamaroo swing. I see our son having hours sleepy time on it.
A Small Budget
With a baby on the way, we have made many big and small purchases. Our son’s crib alone was about $500. So, we’ve been looking for deals wherever we can find them. Obviously, there are some things I wouldn’t buy used, like mattresses and bedding, but on just about everything else…including clothes, we have been able to save big. We haven’t been billed for our OBGYN appointments yet besides the outsourced ultrasounds and blood work. This means that we need to cut back now in order to prepare for a potential large bill later. And if that bill doesn’t come, then it’s extra cash we have on-hand for things we want to do with our baby once he’s here, maybe a nice vacation once he’s old enough. But I know that cutting back now will pay later.
Quality Time
Recently, I’ve noticed that all my girlfriend and I have been doing were baby related. Most of what we travel into town for are doctor’s appointments and buying baby stuff. Even though my girlfriend is 32 weeks pregnant today, I realized that we still need to get out of the house and have some fun. We need to do things for us sometimes. We seem to have lost ourselves in the pregnancy. Our baby will be joining us next month which is all the more reason to get out and have some quality time…just my girlfriend and I. In general, I think it’s important if you’re in a relationship to spend as much time as you can with the one you love while making time for family, friends and yourself…alone time is very important also.
Make It Work
The relationship between my girlfriend and I has been pretty great lately. We seem to understand each other a lot better. And with everything, patience is key. Maybe it’s the universe tossing us a bone for how much effort we’ve put forth. But things seem to be a bit easier and we seem to be on the same page more often than not. This is all happening just in time for the arrival of our baby. And anything that’s worth it will be worth the time and patience it takes to make it work. Usually, when something isn’t worth your time, you’ll know it because the patience wouldn’t be there either.
In Closing
Week 31 had been a very slow week for us. Even with a doctor’s appointment, there doesn’t seem to be very many exciting things to be done. All we need to do is to get a few small things that we have been putting off like: a baby nail clipper, wash cloths, towels, etc. Things are winding down pretty quickly as we approach our baby’s arrival…I think it’s the calm before the storm!!
